Hi all, just introducing myself and help starting the dialog. My wife and I live in Edmonds where we have an ever expanding garden/edible landscape and practice (muddle through?) various aspects of Green Wizardry. Other interests include passive solar (Glenn, I'm the one that threatened to visit you and your brother several years ago, then backed out when we bought this place, hope things are going well out there ). This was a good year in the garden and we produced a lot of food. Unfortunately the rats ate much of it. Today I built a water filled bucket type rat trap. Anyone have any experience or tips for trapping rats? I'm considering an electrocution type device, anyone try one of these? We have an old cat that is not a hunter. When shes gone I would seriously consider getting a strictly outdoor cat as a "ratter". Any thoughts on cats for rat control? We heat with wood and we don't have a woodshed, so we have tarp-covered stacks of firewood near the gardens. This is a perfect storm for rats: they live in the firewood by day, nice and dry and toasty, and dine on fresh garden produce every night . Cheers - Gavia
